On this page you will find the main project events and phases, and in the end there is a list of some media hits. But to inspire you before gliding deeper into those topics, we listed here some videos where you can actually see that nocturnal species.

Main project events and phases

2024

  • What are the challenges and solutions in flying squirrel protection practices in Finnish commercial forests? A seminar with this topic was arranged on 7.2.2024 in Tampere. Program and presentations (in Finnish) can be found from the page Flying Squirrel LIFE guides and other project publications.
  • Excursions for project partners to North Estonia in spring and to Eastern Finland in autumn will be arranged. Project sites will be visited.
  • Final seminars both in Estonia and Finland will be arranged, as the year 2024 is the final action year in the project. In Finland the seminar will be in Espoo on 6.11.2024. Save the date!

2023

2022

  • Dog Workshop on how and why to use the dogs in flying squirrel inventories was arranged in Somero, South Finland on 25.-26.8.2022. See the videos of the presentations (youtube.com).
  • Commission’s fourth follow-up mission to the project site, 3-4 May 2021, in North-East Estonia. 
  • Field excursion was arranged 4-5 May in North-East Estonia. Read the Excursion Report (pdf 7 196 kt).
  • Several webinars related to the flying squirrel and its inventories and how to take it into account in forestry planning were held.

2021

  • Webinar on flying squirrels in urban areas, 8 September 2021. How to take flying squirrels into account in cities and urban areas? 174 participants.
  • Commission’s third follow-up mission to the project site, 4-5 May 2021. Event was organised as an online meeting due to Covid-19 restrictions.
  • Midterm Report to the Commission, 31 March 2021. Mid-term Report was submitted to the Commission according to the timetable.
  • Joint planning process for commecial forest project sites is finished and the plans ready
