Spending time in and enjoying nature combined with communal and meaningful voluntary work is an experience that attracts increasing numbers of people. National parks and protected areas offer great possibilities for volunteering to everyone from private citizens to organisations and associations.
Typical forms of voluntary activities include working parties that manage heritage landscapes, tasks associated with observing and protecting species, restoring valuable old buildings, serving as a Wildlife Tutor as well as work related to game and fisheries management.
Voluntary work is highly significant for Finnish nature. The volunteers’ work input equals around 20 person-years annually. Every year, we give an award to the Nature Volunteer of the Year.
