    Visitation Numbers

    Metsähallitus Parks & Wildlife Finland collects visitation numbers of the most popular state-owned protected and hiking areas in its administration. The data is collected mostly with electronic counters counting users of trails and hiking facilities.

    Development of national park visits and national park network, 2012-2022

    Number of visits to national parks has almost doubled from about two million visits in 2012 to over 3.5 million in 2022. At the same time, the amount of national parks has grown from 37 to 41 and the area from 9,000 square kilometers to over 10,000 square kilometers.
