Procurement in Metsähallitus
Metsähallitus is committed to responsible procurement. We comply with the Act on Public Procurement, the Act on Contractor's Liability When Work Is Contracted Out, and our in-house procurement guidelines.
When we purchase products and services, the contracts are put out to tender in compliance with the Act on Public Procurement and Metsähallitus Group’s procurement guidelines. These procurements are highly important for our ability to carry out our tasks and the cost-effectiveness of our operations.
The procurements concern contracting, products and services needed by the Group, including harvesting and timber transport services, machinery contracting and a diverse range of expert services and ICT procurements.
We select our contractual partners through competitive bidding based on fair and transparent criteria.
Reliable partners are important to our operations. This is why it is also essential that our partners operate responsibly. We take into account the economic, social and environmental aspects of corporate social responsibility when selecting our partners and supervise compliance regularly and systematically throughout the contract period.
Supplier Code of Conduct
Responsible procurement is part of Metsähallitus’ strategic CSR programme. We insist that the entire procurement chain operates responsibly and consistently following the principles of Metsähallitus’ Code of Conduct. This is why we also expect a similar commitment to lawful, ethical and responsible practices of all our suppliers.
Our resbonsibility work
We want to be a forerunner in responsibility. We have an ambitious responsibility programme that is strongly linked with our values, supports our strategy and co-ordinates our responsibility work.
The Supplier Code of Conduct secures our partners’ commitment to responsible and ethical action and ensures responsible operation across our entire chain of contracts. Its contents are based on Metsähallitus’ in-house Code of Conduct.
The Supplier Code of Conduct is an elemental part of all our procurement contracts and thus binding to suppliers in a contractual relationship with us. We also expect our partners to require compliance with CSR principles in their own supply chains.
A significant breech of the Supplier Code of Conduct is grounds for terminating the contract if the supplier does not rectify their conduct in line with corrective actions proposed by Metsähallitus.
