AI use in Metsähallitus
In Metsähallitus, AI is a tool that supports expert work, for example in structuring materials and proofreading. We are also working towards a partnership in which AI will complement an expert’s work.
AI use in Metsähallitus is evolving constantly. We engage in open discussion on how the new opportunities can be used responsibly and appropriately. The goal is that AI will facilitate our work and support experts without undermining the reliability or transparency of what we do.
The ultimate responsibility for content, its accuracy and its impact always rests with humans. AI is not flawless or neutral, and the content it produces may contain errors or biases. This is why all materials to be published are always evaluated and reviewed by an expert.
AI will not replace authentic images of Finland’s lands and waters.
When communicating about Metsähallitus’ activities as well as people and nature, we always use authentic images and videos. The materials we use are based on reality and aimed at strengthening trust in what we do.
Limited use of AI is possible, for example to produce illustrations, visualisations and animations. Such content must be clearly illustrative, and it must not look documentary or like a real event. Any use of AI to support content production is always acknowledged.
We provide information on AI use openly
Trust and openness are the foundation of what Metsähallitus does. AI use should be acknowledged when publishing materials if AI has played a significant role in producing the end result. The role of AI must not remain unclear, and its use must not be misleading. Such situations may include summaries, analyses or illustrations.
The use of AI should be indicated in a way that is a good fit with the channel, for example in captions, lead paragraphs or body text. The purpose of this indication is to help recipients understand the content correctly and to promote the transparency of communication.
