Metsähallitus paid contractors over half a million euros as a bonus for high-quality work

Metsähallitus has for several years used quality bonuses to encourage its contractors to do a good job. Last year, the bonuses for high-quality work amounted to EUR 530,000.

Rather than having its own machinery, Metsähallitus outsources all contracting services to entrepreneurs in the sector through competitive tendering. Quality bonuses have been paid to entrepreneurs and contractors engaged in timber harvesting and soil preparation by excavator.

“By rewarding entrepreneurs, we wish to encourage them to achieve the best possible work quality. The aims of this practice also include making Metsähallitus more attractive for contractors in tendering processes”, says Heikki Kääriäinen, Director at Metsähallitus Forestry Ltd.

The bonus amount varied between two and four per cent of contractors’ fees in 2021.

Responsible procurement is part of Metsähallitus’ strategic Responsibility programme. Reliable contractors are vital partners in Metsähallitus’ operations, which is why Metsähallitus Forestry Ltd has for the last four years been encouraging entrepreneurs to invest in the quality of their work.
