Metsähallitus seeks entrepreneur to develop year-round services at Auttiköngäs

The welcoming atmosphere, tasty refreshments and warm customer service of the Auttiköngäs café have been among the destination’s strengths, and Metsähallitus hopes that these will continue as part of the new entrepreneur’s diverse range of services. Located in the area of Rovaniemi municipality, Auttiköngäs offers excellent opportunities for developing nature tourism as well as year-round activities and tourism products.

The café is equipped with traditional wooden furniture, a display and sales counter, and some kitchen appliances and original equipment, providing a good foundation for starting operations. The entrepreneur can provide any additional equipment according to the needs of their own business concept.

In addition to the main building, the premises include storage facilities, an accessible toilet and a combined woodshed and waste shelter. The tenant is responsible for the costs related to the property, as specified in the Building Responsibility Matrix.

Auttiköngäs brings together an impressive waterfall, nature and history

Auttiköngäs offers diverse opportunities for nature tourism throughout the year. The old-growth forest of Könkäänvaara, the Auttijoki River and the area’s nature trails provide excellent opportunities for day trips. Auttiköngäs is known for its impressive waterfall, old forests and timber-floating history.

The charming café, with its traditional atmosphere, is located close to the parking area, where also the hiking trails start. The Auttijoki gorge, waterfall and timber-floating flume are located close to the café. Visitors can learn more about the area’s timber-floating and logging history at Uittopirtti and the Savotta Museum.

Auttiköngäs is located in the Rovaniemi area, approximately 80 kilometres from the centre of Rovaniemi, less than 60 kilometres from Kemijärvi and around 100 kilometres from Kuusamo.

Korouoma Nature Reserve in Posio, a popular destination especially in winter, is about a 30-minute drive away.

In addition to running the café, Metsähallitus expects the operator to contribute to the development of the destination

In November, Metsähallitus organizes an open house in Auttiköngäs for all interested entrepreneurs.

When selecting the operator, Metsähallitus will consider the proposed annual rent, the business concept, opening hours and how well the proposed activities are suited to the special characteristics of Auttiköngäs.
