EIA Programme for the Edith Offshore Wind Project Completed and Published for Public Review

The Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) Programme for Metsähallitus’ Edith Offshore Wind Project has been completed and published for public review on the environmental administration’s online service. The project is located in Finland’s territorial waters off the coast of Närpiö on the Gulf of Bothnia.

The EIA Programme presents the project alternatives, the impacts to be assessed, and the methods that will be used in the assessment process. The programme serves as the starting point for the Environmental Impact Assessment procedure, the purpose of which is to provide information to support the further planning of the project and future decision-making.

The Licensing and Supervision Agency acts as the competent authority for the EIA procedure. The EIA Programme is available for public review from 27 August to 12 October 2026, during which time everyone has the opportunity to submit opinions and statements.

Public Information and Stakeholder Engagement Event

The EIA Programme will be presented at a public information event on 10 September 2026 at the auditorium of Närpiö Lower Secondary School.

The event begins with coffee service at 4:30 p.m. Presentations and the Teams remote connection will be available from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. During the event, the EIA Programme, the impacts to be assessed, and the progress of the EIA procedure will be presented. Participants will also have the opportunity to discuss the project with the project team and experts.

In addition, the following stakeholder engagement activities will be organised during the EIA procedure:

  • October 2026: A discussion meeting with the project’s monitoring group, local associations, village associations, and other stakeholders.
  • November 2026: A public information event concerning the onshore transmission connection EIA procedure, where alternative transmission routes, their impacts, and the current planning status will be presented.

Planning of the electricity transmission connection for the Edith Offshore Wind Project is currently underway. The EIA Programme for the offshore project area examines alternative subsea cable routes and landfall locations, while the alternatives for the onshore transmission connection will be assessed in a separate EIA procedure dedicated to electricity transmission.
