In addition to the nation-wide Biodiversity Expertise Network, local networks for nature actors have been strengthened on regional scale. At least in South Karelia, North Savo and Kymenlaakso region, networks compiled of different stakeholders have gathered to change knowledge and ideas. In the networks there are municipalities, Leader groups, educational institutions, regional associations, water and nature conservation associations, natural resources operators and other regional project actors. The common feature is interest in improving biodiversity in one’s own work.
“The need for these networks has risen from the fact that it’s important to know, which other actors are doing nature acts in the region, what is already being done and what kind of nature act is demanded. We also feel that there is a great need for knowledge about the acts aiming for improving biodiversity”, says coordinator Anna Vuori, who has invited the nature actors’ network together in South Karelia and Kymenlaakso regions.
“Regional co-operation helps us to coordinate nature acts better, build new shared projects and share functional practice. Priodiversity LIFE wants to help in supporting the strengthening of regional nature acts”, Vuori continues.
In South Karelia the network has had several meetings during the past couple of years. The networks have also been established in North Savo and in Kymenlaakso regions.
”Here in North Savo the nature actors’ network gathered for the first time in August, and we were positively surprised about its popularity.. There are numerous projects and shared procedures between organizations in this region that help strengthen local biodiversity. Several new projects are under planning, and there is a lot of excited and empowering bustle around this theme”, rejoices regional coordinator Sanna-Kaisa Rautio, who has invited the nature actors’ network together in North Savo region.
There have been speeches from guest experts, presentations about ongoing nature projects in the region, and information about current funding application possibilities and future education sessions and webinars. Visits to nature management sites and project brainstorming workshops are being planned.
We are happy to welcome new operators to the network!

Priodiversity LIFE offers solutions to halt nature loss. The project gathers a wide range of committed operators who together have the chance to find the most impactful and cost-efficient ways to stop nature loss in Finland. In the project we will create requirements to make halting the nature loss into a new skill for Finnish entrepreneurs, and to make Finland an expert on international scale. Priodiversity LIFE is coordinated by Metsähallitus Parks and Wildlife Finland.
