Korsnäs offshore wind project brought crowd to the Open House and Business Evening

Vattenfall and Metsähallitus arranged an open house event for the residents in our joint project office on 1 October 2026. The event brought together around 20 residents to discuss current project topics, learn about the progress of the project, and review maps showing, among other things, the planned potential sea cable landfall areas. Discussions focused particularly on the perspectives of local residents and owners of coastal properties and land.

Later the same evening, the project was presented at a business event organised by VASEK, the Municipality of Korsnäs and Korsnäs Entrepreneurs, attended by approximately 40 participants. The event focused on identifying opportunities for local businesses in connection with major projects currently under development in the region. In addition to the offshore wind project, the program also covered ongoing mineral exploration activities in the Korsnäs area.

Frans Villanen, Vattenfall

Frans Villanen, Market Development Director and Stakeholder Engagement Manager at Vattenfall, presented the project’s regional economic impacts as well as potential employment and business opportunities for the area. The presentation highlighted the growing demand for electricity driven by factors such as industrial electrification and new data centre investments. Offshore wind power was identified as one potential means of meeting future demand for clean electricity.

Participants were particularly interested in the project’s impacts on local businesses, workforce requirements and the reliability of electricity generation. They also expressed a desire for more detailed information on how the project’s direct and indirect impacts could be reflected in local business activities in practice. Discussions noted that, according to a regional economic impact assessment prepared by Ramboll, a significant share of the project’s workforce demand and economic benefits would be directed to the Ostrobothnia region.
