Areas and maps
One third of Finland
Metsähallitus administers 12,5 million hectares of state-owned land and water areas. This is almost one third of Finland. Our areas consist of a rich variety of forests, mires, shores and waters. The majority of state lands are located in Eastern and Northern Finland.
You can see more detailed maps of our areas via the navigation on the left.
Slightly more than one half of our areas are managed forests. However, no silvicultural work is carried out in poorly productive and non-productive land areas.
