Next in the Edith project
The Edith project is progressing according to plan. A wide range of preliminary studies are currently under way to support the technical planning and environmental impact assessment of the project. Current studies include:
- Wind measurements
- Current measurements
- Seabed surveys
- Bird and fish surveys
- Seabed biota and vegetation studies
EIA programme under preparation
The EIA process and planning of the Edith offshore wind project are being carried out in cooperation with experienced consultants in the field. An active dialogue is ongoing with coastal municipalities, addressing, among other topics, the mapping of potential landfall sites and alternative power line routes.
The EIA programme will be launched in 2026, and an open public launch event will be held in early 2026. The programme covers only marine impact assessments. The EIA process for 440 kV overhead power lines on land will be initiated at a later stage, examining alternative transmission routes and their environmental impacts.
The role of local residents and communities is particularly emphasized during the EIA procedure and land use planning, which are based on transparency and inclusiveness. As a municipal resident, you can influence the process by participating in public events and providing opinions during public hearing.
Transfer of project rights
As the studies and planning progress, Metsähallitus will move on to the next phase, where project rights will be auctioned to an investor through an international tendering process. Metsähallitus will retain the role of landlord and oversee management of the area. The state retains ownership of the area through Metsähallitus.
