Land Use Agreements
Metsähallitus manages a wide range of land use agreements, including lease contracts, right-of-use agreements, and landowner consents. These agreements are made with various stakeholders such as municipalities, companies, and private individuals. The Land Use Agreements team is responsible for overseeing and developing these agreements, acting as both expert and coordinator in areas not covered by zoning plans.
The team ensures legal compliance, promotes sustainable and planned land use, and safeguards the interests of Metsähallitus. Currently, there are approximately 9,500 active agreements in multi-use forests. These agreements enable diverse activities while ensuring equality and respect for public access rights.
Most agreements are right-of-use contracts, which grant limited land use rights without full lease entitlements. Through these agreements, Metsähallitus ensures that the use of state-owned land and water areas remains sustainable and well-managed, preserving the value of public assets for future generations.
Land use agreements are a vital part of responsible management of state-owned lands. The team oversees a broad portfolio of contracts, develops processes, collaborates with stakeholders, and protects the interests of Metsähallitus. Successful contract management requires expertise, interaction, and continuous development—ensuring that state lands are used in the best possible way, now and in the future.
