Suomi Finland 100 - let’s celebrate together
This year is Finland’s 100 centenary year. Metsähallitus is one of the partners organising spectacular celebrations in honour of the special year.
A year full of events
Nature will be celebrated on four Nature Days - in February, more than 30,000 people discovered Finland’s winter wonderland; in May, Finns will go wild about spring; in June, they will enjoy a romantic summer night and, in August, Finland will become the first country in the world to honour its natural environment with an official flag day.
In Padasjoki, we will go back a hundred years in time and commemorate the so-called Heikinheimo slash-and-burn area, which was burned in 1917, with a celebratory slash-and-burn zone together with the Natural Resources Institute Finland and the Finnish Forest History Society.
Our feathered friends will also be remembered during the centenary year in the One Million Birdhouses campaign, organised by YLE, the Finnish Broadcasting Corporation. Metsähallitus is organising voluntary events for building birdhouses and offering a place for birdhouses in state-owned, multiple-use forests and protected areas.
Join in the celebration - let’s make this year unforgettable, together!
