European State Forest Conference 2015
Metsähallitus hosted the EUSTAFOR Annual Conference on 10 - 12 June, 2015.
The theme of the conference was “The bioeconomy grows in forests”.
The European forest-based sector is undergoing greatest structural changes for decades, with even more change likely in the next 20 years. Many of these changes originate outside the sector itself: the need to move societies towards a more resource-efficient bioeconomy, Europe's economic role in a globalised world, and the impact of new technologies.
The forest industry is now in the midst of a hectic period; new products and business models are being developed with a focus on biofuels and the development of new, wood-based materials.
Wood construction is also undergoing a renaissance. Sustainability and climate issues form the common denominator of all new-era wood products.
Development towards the bioeconomy presents EUSTAFOR members with excellent opportunities. The extend to which such opportunities are grasped will be decisive for the development of the sector in different countries.
