Objectives

Internationally

  • To create a strategy for the development of nature tourism in the archipelagic region On the right hand side there is a Tavel cape, where a landing place for visitors will be built. On the other side of the cape, as well as Hämnö in north, are private areas. Photo: Jouko Högmander
  • To extend the co-operation network during the project to other biosphere reserves and National parks in the Baltic Sea region.
  • To hold common seminars for nature tourism developers and entrepreneurs from the archipelago and from Western Estonia
  • To exchange experiences regarding the development of nature tourism infrastructure and information material
  • To exchange experiences on entrepreneur cooperation in the pilot areas and on directing tourists in accordance with principles of sustainable development

Developing nature tourism in the Archipelago National Park

  • The present state of tourism in the Archipelago National Park and in its cooperation areas will be examined (number of visitors, most popular destinations, problems)
  • The tourism entrepreneurs' wishes and opinions regarding the development of nature tourism in the aforementioned areas will be noted
  • Networking of entrepreneurs and training of guides specialising in nature tourism will be encouraged

A higher profile of nature tourism hopefully leads to a higher environmental awareness in visitors. Small scale and planned tourism is preferable in the sensitive environment of our archipelago.
