Quality Assurance and Indicators

(photo: Kimmo Kuure)Metsähallitus has a set of jointly agreed internal procedures to monitor and develop the quality of its operations. The business units have defined the most suitable quality criteria for their operations, which are measured in regular intervals. In the Forestry unit, for example, the quality of operations consists of the efficiency of those operations, customer satisfaction and a commitment to the environment and occupational safety.

The Forestry unit’s quality criteria are:

  • share of waste from harvested trees
  • quality of entrepreneurs’ work
  • development initiatives that have been approved
  • customer satisfaction
  • investments in silviculture

In quality assurance, the responsibility of each worker to develop his or her own work is highlighted. The competence of Metsähallitus’ personnel and its subcontractors is maintained through training and long-term co-operation. Customers’ opinions and improvement suggestions are charted annually through various questionnaires and surveys, and feedback is used to develop operations.
