Volunteer Work in Protected Areas

Volunteer camps are a very important part of conserving national parks and other protected areas. At each camp a single larger management procedure which requires a larger number of workers is carried out. Such procedures include mowing and clearing of fields and cleaning of areas. The first camps each year are organised at the end of April.

In many places, especially protected areas in Southern Finland, signs of work done by volunteers are clearly visible. Volunteer work is a fun and rewarding way to conserve nature.

Volunteer camps are usually arranged as joint projects by Metsähallitus and organisations it cooperates with.

Volunteer Monitoring of Species

Volunteers play an important and big part in monitoring birds of prey populations.
