Cooperation in Finland and Abroad to Conserve Nature

One of the main principles of Metsähallitus Natural Heritage Services is to work in cooperation with various organisations in order to realise shared goals.

Research Cooperation

Metsähallitus is not a research facility, so cooperation with research institutes plays an important role in getting research results for the benefit of the conservation and management of the areas and species.

Volunteer Work

Volunteers play a valuable role in the care of protected areas and in the monitoring of species.

International Cooperation

Metsähallitus’ cooperation with international organisations is part of the international functioning of Finland’s environmental administration. International cooperation focuses on preserving the natural features in the Fenno-Scandinavian boreal zone, as this in turn helps conserve Finland’s nature. We work closely with our international partners especially with those in Russia, but also with those in Estonia, Norway and Sweden.

In addition Metsähallitus represents Finland’s environmental administration when cooperating with other countries and international organisations. We also work together with the Province of Hunan in China and with South Korea.

We encourage our employees to seek positions in international organisations to help them acquire new knowledge and experiences, to build an international network and to acquire the language and other skills needed when working with people and organisations from all over the world. Respectively we offer traineeship positions for foreigners to support the growth of international networking in our field.
