Working with Contractors
Metsähallitus hires contractors for nearly all of the felling work carried out and for the transportation of wood, as well as for a significant amount of forest management and forest improvement services. Approximately 270 forest industry companies, representing an estimated 700 workers, are in the service of Metsähallitus.
The companies work extensively in rural areas, and in eastern and northern Finland, in particular, they bring valuable income to the regional and local economies.
In co-operation with its contractors, Metsähallitus strives to develop the available services and positively influence the development of contractor operations in the entire forest industry. In selecting service suppliers, Metsähallitus aims for deals that have a good price/quality ratio. Operational policies in matters concerning contracting are defined in Metsähallitus’ contracting principles.
