Selling Wood to the Forest Industry
Metsähallitus forestry sells certified pulpwood, saw logs, forest biomass and licences to collect firewood to companies in the forest sector.
Metsähallitus sells timber twice a year. A significant part of the timber is sold under general agreements made individually with key customers for several years. Agreements can be made for very long periods as the planning systems provide information on the quality, quantity and location of future harvest volumes. This way the customer can rely on a steady supply of wood, even throughout the year if necessary.
Our largest customers are Finnish forest industry companies producing pulp, paper and sawn timber. Metsähallitus supplies wood to a total of more than a hundred points of delivery.
Pulpwood and saw logs are supplied to customers as a complete service. This means that environmental responsibility and delivery to the requested location are always factored into the price of the wood.
Part of the sawlogs are sold using a sales catalogue issued twice a year. The catalogue includes regional listings of sawlog lots for which prospective buyers can make bids.
Metsähallitus’ forests are certified in compliance with the international PEFC system. Such certification is a sign that wood raw material is procured from sustainably managed forests.
